"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -Nelson Mandela
Teach | Encourage | Inspire
Children learn from every experience, and every experience shapes them into the individual that they will become. Elementary teachers are at the pinnacle of this impact zone, controlling what knowledge will pass in front of a child’s eyes and ears. The responsibility of developing the minds of the next generation is essential to our growth as a society, and music plays an integral part in the process. Music is the bridge between people of varying cultures and backgrounds, those who speak different languages, participate in different belief systems, and live different life styles; music is a common thread that unites us all. Our children will be the change that the world needs to see, and music will provide the foundation for us to grow together. Through music, a child can develop the qualities of mutual respect and cultural understanding and how to use these valuable tools to strive towards this unified growth.
Aside from providing my students with the necessary skills and knowledge directly related to musical concepts, I feel that providing a nurturing environment where a child feels accepted, appreciated, and free to express themselves is an incredibly important aspect of music education. I believe that if a child feels safe to be themselves in their truest form, they are most likely to accept others for who they are and celebrate their differences. My aim is to facilitate a positive environment based on experiential learning and musical exploration where I can demonstrate the connections between music and culture to foster an understanding and appreciation of diversity. I believe that the mutual respect and cultural understanding developed in the music classroom will positively influence their character and will ultimately help our society to make greater strides forward.
